'Business communities of two countries will be encouraged to move ahead'

Speaker of the legislative Parliament of Nepal Subash Chandra Nemwang said, Bangladesh Single Country Fair in Kathmandu would encourage the business communities of Nepal and Bangladesh to move ahead and further strengthen the existing bond of economic and trade relations between the two countries, reports UNB.
He made the remark while inaugurating the Bangladesh Single Country Fair 2007 at Birendra International Convention Centre in the Nepalese capital Friday morning.
The Nepalese Speaker, who attended the fair as the chief guest, also stressed the need for greater and closer cooperation between the two countries, saying it is the need of the time.
He called upon all to work together for the expansion of trade, investment, technology, transport and communication, energy, tourism and fisheries to realise huge potentials in trade relations between the two countries.
Referring to the access of Nepalese agri-products to Bangladeshi markets, the Speaker urged the Bangladesh Government to consider favourable and preferential treatment of the Nepalese products to further boost the trade relations.
He said, both Bangladesh and Nepal are reliable friends and good neighbours despite changes that occurred time to time in international and regional situations.
Nepalese Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Shyam Sundar Gupta, who attended the inaugural function as the special guest, said, there is tremendous potential to expand bilateral trade relations.
He called upon all to explore ways and means to improve trade performance in the context of low volume of trade between the two countries.
In his welcome address, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Imtiaz Ahmed urged the Nepalese business community to invest in Bangladesh's export processing zones and in joint venture projects.
President of Nepal-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and representative of FNCCI LB Shreshtha and President of Confederation of Nepalese Industries Binod Kumar Chowdhury welcomed the initiative of holding the fair, and also emphasised on further enhancing the volume of bilateral trade.
A number of Nepalese officials, members of business community, members of civil society, media people and expatriate Bangladeshis also attended the programme.
