Business ethics and MNCs
Friday, 21 November 2014
Now-a-days one of the most important topics of discussion in business is violation of ethics. In this 21st century when the world is becoming more complex than before, we suffer from problems arising out of violation of ethics. Hundreds of multinational companies (MNCs) are doing business all over the world and there are some whose total assets are more than that of a Third World country. There are hundreds of MNCs in a few countries. In the USA some MNCs are Microsoft (worldwide revenues $ 69900 million), Johnson (Revenues $8800 million), Coca-Cola, Intel etc. According to the IMF, now the economy of China is $17.6 trillion compared with the USA's $17.2 trillion.
In China there are MNCs, such as Alibaba, which is larger than Amazon.com. Although the main objective of business is to make profit, recent financial scandals have proved that those MNCs are only after money. These MNCs are involved in many unethical activities like destroying environment, and interfering in economy and politics of the Third World countries. All those ethical violations are happening because code of ethics (integrity, honesty) are not being adhered to. In recent days in many countries protest, procession etc. are being held against MNCs. After all the MNCs need to follow the code of ethics and also the people of the Third World need to be alert about the malpractices of MNCs.
