FE Report | Friday, 25 July 2008
The Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) Wednesday opened a 'Business Journalism Cell' to cater to media-related services to the country's small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The main role of the new cell will be projecting the problems and potentials of the country's SMEs, said DRU leaders at the inauguration ceremony at the DRU auditorium. DRU president Alamgir Hossain chaired the ceremony.
Representatives of the SMEs were present at the ceremony and lauded the establishment of the cell that will be run jointly by the DRU, the Mass-line Media and the Catalyst. Former caretaker government adviser and editor of the daily Independent Mahbubul Alam was present as the chief guest. Alam said the stories on SMEs do not get due coverage in the national dailies, although they are the main driving force of the country's economy.
He stressed the need for changing conceptions of the business editors and the newspaper management with an aim to highlight the successes and problems of the local SMEs.
