Business leaders have sought active role from the new leadership of FBCCI to attract more investment and protect the country’s interest in taking any decision. They came up with the call at a reception accorded to FBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmad on Saturday. Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Lee Yun-young, BMCCI President Nasir A Choudhury, renowned businessman and Managing Director of AK Khan & Company Ltd Salahuddin Kasem Khan, former BMCCI Presidents Syed Nurul Islam, Syed Moazzem Hossain, incumbent Secretary General Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul, and Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Selima Ahmad, among others, spoke on the occasion. Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce (BMCCI) arranged the event at a Dhaka hotel. Salahuddin Kasem Khan said, "Whatever decision you take in the FBCCI, you must serve the country's interest." He said Bangladesh needs additional 10 per cent investment to reach 7 per cent-plus growth and there should be efforts to attract foreign direct investment. The Korean Ambassador said Bangladesh must have more success stories to attract new investors in Bangladesh, and hoped that Matlub will bring about a success in attracting FDI. The diplomat said he has been trying for the last nine months to bring more Korean investors to Bangladesh. "If we join hands and work together, Bangladesh will have more FDI." Syed Nurul Islam hoped that Matlub will be the man who can make a difference. "He’ll be able to properly serve the business community. He’ll prove that he’s the right person to lead us." Selima Ahmad, also Matlub’s wife, said they want to see something different from the new FBCCI chief. She hoped that he will address women entrepreneurs’ problems and would work for sustainable development for the business community. Matlub Ahmad assured all of working in line with the business community’s desire, and said he is working primarily on two agendas – bringing down bank interest and establishing industries in all districts. The FBCCI chief said he would work for more investment promotion in Bangladesh, according to UNB.
