Business-media cooperation vital for businesses dev

JESSORE, Nov 12: Business leaders and media professionals at a discussion in Jessore today underscored the need for stronger ties between businesspeople and the media to help boost business and speed up overall economic development of the country, said a press release.
They said the media can promote business by drawing attention of the government and policymakers about the problems of local businesses such as shortage of skilled manpower, load-shedding, lack of Gas supply, poor communication system, capital shortage, and smuggling.
Business Reporters' Network (BRN), Jessore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) jointly organised the discussion titled 'Scope of Business-Media Cooperation' with support from Katalyst.
Mobinul Islam Mobin, Publisher and Editor, Daily Gramer Kagoj moderated the discussion in which Jahid Hasan Tukun, vice-president, Jessore Chamber, presented a keynote paper titled "Business in Jessore : An Overview".
Mr. Tukun described the challenges and opportunities of existing and emerging business sectors of Jessore and sought cooperation from the media to meet the challenges. Fakre Alam, Senior Staff Reporter, Daily Jai Jai Din; and S M Touhidur Rahman, Jessore Bureau Chief, Daily Samakal presented another keynote highlighting business-media cooperation in local context.
They described the problems of various business sectors of Jessore and the role of media in covering business issues. They said due to lack of cooperation between the businesses and the media and problems in getting information, media coverage of business issues remains insignificant.
Shahidul Islam Milon, President, Jessore Chamber, expressed the hope that better media coverage will help boost local business, and business reporters will contribute more to improving the business environment of Jessore.
