Businessman mugged in Gulistan area

Unidentified miscreants snatched over Tk 0.1 million and a bank cheque for Tk 1.0 million from a businessman after exploding a cocktail in the capital's Gulistan area Wednesday, police said.
The victim identified as Palash Chowdhury was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with splinter injuries.
Witnesses said the incident took place at about 1:30pm when a group of alleged muggers intercepted Palash, an export-import businessman of Gulistan Shopping Complex area  while he was going to Nawabpur Road.
As Palash raised alarm for help the miscreants hurled a handmade bomb at him and left the place with the booty.
When contacted, ASI Haroon-ur-Rashid of Sergeant Ahad Police Box in the area said the victim reached Gulistan Crossing by a rickshaw after withdrawing Tk 126,000 from Motijheel branch of Al Arafah Islami Bank.
"Palash came under t attack while moving towards Nawabpur for business purposes," he said, adding that the snatchers also took away his handbag containing a bank cheque for Tk 1.0 million.
However, no one was arrested in connection with the incident.
