Friday, 24 October 2014

A businessman has decided to withdraw an extortion case he filed against three policemen after the trio reportedly returned the money they allegedly extorted from him. Md Maqbool Hossain’s lawyer Mostafizur Rahman Sujon said they moved the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Thursday afternoon to quash the case, hours after filing it. DMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman said he heard that both parties had reached a settlement. According to case details, Bongshal Police Station’s  Sub-Inspector ‘Murshid’, constables 'Moazzem' and 'Pradeep' demanded Tk 0.5 million (500,000) from Hossain on October 20 and threatened to implicate him in false cases if he refused to pay up. Hossain gave them Tk 350,000 and the cops made him sign on a blank paper. Hossain said he had gone to file a complaint at the police station but had been thrown out. He submitted to court a videotape from his office’s closed-circuit camera that recorded the Oct 20 incident, according to bdnews24.com.
