KUSHTIA, Nov 9 (UNB): Businessmen of Mirpur Upazila enforced a half-day strike protesting the arrest and torture of fellow businessman and Jubo League leader Sunday.
The businessmen kept their shutters down responding to the call of strike. Vehicular movement in the upazila headquarters also came to a halt during the strike, which was called by Natun Bazar Business Association.
Local businessmen and Jubo League activists brought out separate processions during the programme.
RAB members held Wahed Joarder, president of Mirpur pourashava Jubo League and local businessman, along with a knife from his business office Saturday noon.
Flight Lt Nazrul Islam of RAB-12 said Joarder is an identified terrorist and he was involved in various criminal activities.
But the businessmen and Jubo League leaders denied the charges saying that Joarder, also a well-known businessman, was arrested and tortured on a false excuse.
