Buyers show interest in low-price cars

Car buyers at the fourth auto show in the city showed interest in smaller and low priced motor vehicles, representatives of car manufactuers said.
The fourth Dhaka Lucas Motor Show held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Confernce Centre in the city ended March 21.
Some 56 companies including distributors of new cars and automotive components, took part in the show.
Representatives of car manufactuers said that over 30 small cars have been sold in the fair and most of them were smaller in size and low priced.
Sabrina Sadek, a senior official at the Pacific Motors, said: "The sale is satisfactory amid the ongoing recession."
Executives at different stalls said buyers rush was noticed at the low priced vechicles varying between Tk 8,00,000 and Tk 1.0 million each.
Gazi Abdur Rahman, an executive of event managment CEMS said that during all the four days there was rush of visitors to the fair adding: "buyers showed their interest mainly in low priced cars."
One senior executive of Navana Limited said: "We are happy over the sales, and it might grow further if the recession does not hit the remittance and the export."
Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and other leading car manufacturers showcased their products in the fair with their latest models.
Car sales grew last year in Bangladesh thanks to loan facilities by commercial banks.
Industry insiders said the autmobile market in Bangladesh has been mainintaing a steady growth in recent years spurred by government, corporate and individual purchases.
Used cars imported from Japan mostly dominate the local auto market. The sale of new cars is also rising in the country. Local buyers purchase around 4000 new cars a year.
