BWCCI for proper execution of BB circular on refinancing women-run SMEs

The Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) has requested the government for proper execution of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) circular on refinancing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) run by women.
It also urged the government to increase the SME fund from Tk 400 million to Tk 600 million.
The request was made when a 15-member delegation of BWCCI called on Finance Advisor AB Mirza Azizul Islam at Planning Commission Saturday. Led by BWCCI President Selima Ahmad, the delegation also put forward a number of recommendations to the advisor.
These include adopting a comprehensive long term policy for at least five year for women entrepreneurship development, financial and technical support for design and product development, training and capacity building, promote women SME in export oriented market and facilitate women entrepreneurs with market intelligence while they go to participate in international trade fair.
The delegation members requested the government to take initiative to increase awareness regarding the central bank's circular so that women SME, particularly rural women SME, can be benefited.
The Finance Advisor appreciated the BWCCI's efforts in entrepreneurship development and virtually agreed upon the issues raised by the visiting team. 'I will take an immediate initiative and discuss with the respective ministries and departments to ensure increased and effective participation of women in national economy' he told the delegation.
Vice President Selina Quader, Treasurer Nazme-Ara_Hossin were among the delegation members.
Earlier BWCCI's President Selima Ahmad briefed the advisor about the goal, objectives, issues and activities of advocacy program undertaken by BWCCI in cooperation with the Center for International Private Enterprise to promote women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.
The delegation members appreciated the government for initiating a gender friendly national budget this year and said effective participation of women in the business and industry sector is a precondition for a healthy and sustainable economic growth of the country.
