RAJSHAHI, Dec 14 (BSS): The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has taken initiative to construct a 17-kilometre road on the city protection embankment.
The initiative is a part of transforming the Padma riverbank into an attractive tourist spot.
The BWDB Superintending Engineer Abdul Mannan told the news agency that the decision had been finalised along with proper maintenance of the embankment. Around Tk 30 million has been estimated for construction of the road.
On completion of the construction works, he said light vehicles would ply on the road side by side with the pedestrians but heavy vehicle would not be allowed on it to maintain its longevity.
On the other hand, the BWDB has adopted another programme for improvement of the banks of the river Padma along with building a recreational park on the riverbank.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) would provide Tk 1.0 million for implementation of the uplift programme, under which, six playgrounds on separate spots and amusement centres on the bank of the river would be constructed, he added.
