B’desh suffer again

Touring Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team suffered their second consecutive defeat in the five-match Youth ODI series losing to hosts Sri Lankan Under-19 side by four runs in the 2nd match at Colts Cricket Club ground in Colombo Tuesday, reports UNB.
With the day's victory, the Islanders took a 2-0 lead over Young Tigers and brightened their chance to win the five-match Youth ODI series.
Favoured by coin, Sri Lanka batted first to score 179 for 9 in stipulated 50 overs with one down KIC Asalanka contributing 68 runs off 92 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes.
V Randika (24), SSD Arachchige (15) and NK Weerasinghe (14) were the other notable contributors for the host team.
Mehedy Hasan of Bangladesh claimed three wickets for 15 runs, Saleh Ahmed also grabbed three wickets for 17, Mohammad Saifuddin captured two wickets for 44 runs while Nahid Hasan took the remaining wicket for 34 runs.
Chasing an easy target, Bangladesh Youth team made a frustrating start as they failed to make any good partnership and lost the wickets on regular interval, except a 47-run partnership in the 9th wicket stand.
Bangladesh lost top five wickets-Munim Shahriar (3), Nazmul Hossain Shanta (3), Saif Hassan (4), Joyraj Sheikh (3) and Mehedy Hasan (8) -- for just 38 runs in 12.2 overs.
Their misery further consolidated after losing three more quick wickets-Zakir Hasan (13), Saifuddin (29) and Sanjit Saha (6) -- when scoreboard showing 110 for 8 in 28 overs, but a 47-run partnership in the 9th wicket stand enabled them to score a fighting total 175 runs for all in 47.1 overs.
Number seven batsman Shahanur Rahman guided the team single handedly toward victory, but his departure in the first ball of 48th over closed the Bangladesh innings at 175 runs, just five short of the victory.
Shahanur contributed 72 runs off 123 balls featuring eight fours before he was bowled by Silva. Another 26 runs of the Bangladesh innings came from extras.
AM Fernando made the major damage in Bangladesh innings grabbing six wickets for 37 runs while C Karunaratne took three wickets for 19 runs.
In the remaining Youth ODI matches, Bangladesh will play Sri Lankan Under-19 side on January 22, 24 and 25 respectively, the first two matches at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the last match at Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo.
