CA asks armed forces to discharge election duties with neutrality

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed Wednesday called upon the armed forces to discharge their election duties with hundred per cent neutrality, honesty and transparency and providing all out cooperation to the Election Commission (EC) for holding a free, fair and credible election, reports BSS.
"The entire nation looks at you with their full confidence and faith. So, you will use your full aptitude aiming at fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people," he said while addressing the officers of armed forces at Senakunja in the Dhaka Cantonment.
Chief of Army Staff General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman and Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Md Abdul Mubeen, among others, were present at the function.
The Chief Adviser said discharging of election duties was important as well as sensitive as the whole nation, mass media from home and abroad, election observers and foreign friends had kept their eyes on the polls and transition to democracy in the country.
As a result, he said, the armed forces had to remain cautious to uphold their tradition, dignity and people's confidence while performing their responsibilities.
Mentioning the praiseworthy role of armed forces regarding holding of peaceful election in the country, he expressed the hope that the members of the armed forces would set an example again in the country's history of democratic progress by extending their cooperation to the EC towards holding a peaceful and credible election.
Laying emphasis on modernising each corps and unit of armed forces enabling to face the challenges of 21st century, he said multi-dimensional armed forces excellence with professionalism was the demand of time.
Referring to the role of members of Bangladesh armed forces during the last two years to fulfil the hopes and aspiration of the people, he said, courageous, neutral and farsighted role of armed forces had earned the confidence and praise of the countrymen.
Dr Fakhruddin mentioned the role of armed forces with appreciation in maintaining law and order, preparation of voters list with photographs and facing different natural calamities including flood and cyclones.
Referring to preparation of voter list, he said flawless and correct voter list was the main component of holding a free, fair and credible election. "You have set a rare example by completing the huge task of preparation of electoral role with photographs and National ID cards that was applauded both at home and abroad," he said.
Referring to the praiseworthy role of Bangladesh Navy to protect the sovereignty of the country in the vast maritime boundaries, the Chief Adviser said the efforts to build a modern and strong Naval Force would be further strengthened in future.
About Air Force, he said the air force was playing a vital role in the Bangladesh air boundary line to protect safety and sovereignty of the country inspired with the slogan "We will keep free the sky of Bangladesh".
