Tuesday, 24 July 2007

Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Monday directed the law-enforcing agencies to further intensify their operation against all forms of crimes to ensure public safety and security, reports UNB.
He gave the instructions in a meeting with the heads of various law-enforcing agencies at the CA's office, incidentally against the backdrop of some sensational incidents in recent times. He was apprised of the country's latest law-and-order situation.
The head of caretaker government was concerned about the recent crimes in the capital and some parts of the country, and he called the high-level meeting for charting out a fit preventive action.
Ahmed suggested that various law-enforcing agencies hold regular coordination meeting among themselves as well as take short-and long-term measures for curbing crime to further improve the situation.
"People must be safe and secure, and it is the duty of the law-enforcing agencies to ensure that," the CA told the meeting.
The meeting over, CA's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim, who was present at the meeting, said that the meeting was called at the initiative of the CA as he found reports from newspapers about recent law-and-order situation in the country.
Taking into account some recent incidents like murder of a lady lawyer and a college girl, criminal activities by 'molom party' or 'agyan party', the CA said physical presence of police in crime-prone areas, public places like bus terminals and railway stations and marketplaces should be further increased so that people feel safer and more secured.
He also asked for heightening vigilance and patrol round the clock to come to grips with the situation.
The IGP apprised that clues to the two sensational murders have been identified and said that crime figure has declined recently. "Overall situation of law and order is under control."
