CA asks secys to cooperate with EC for holding free, fair election

Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Sunday called upon the secretaries and field level government officials to extend all out cooperation to the Election Commission (EC) to hold the next election in a free, fair and credible manner, reports BSS.
"We have to hold such an election which will remain as an example in the history of the country," he said while addressing the highest government officials at the Cabinet Division's conference room here Sunday morning.
The CA while giving his concluding speech before the secretaries after assuming office expressed the hope that democracy would be strengthened and good-governance be ensured through the upcoming elections.
Cabinet Secretary Md Abdul Aziz chaired the function when secretaries of different ministries and equivalent government officials were present on the occasion.
Referring to the importance of bureaucracy, Fakhruddin Ahmed said the government would come and go, but the importance of bureaucracy would exist regarding running of the government.
He said there was no alternative to honest, skilled, professional and people oriented bureaucracy to run the government in a transparent and accountable manner.
Describing bureaucrats as the role-model of administration as well as society, he said you (secretaries) have to possess liberal, positive, transparent and modern attitude along with keeping yourself equipped with the knowledge of modern science and technology and management capacity.
Fakhruddin Ahmed called upon the secretaries to render service to the people with utmost neutrality and professionalism as citizens of the republic.
In this connection, he referred to different government reform measurers including easing and simplifying pension procedures, issuing passport and other services without any hassle.
Giving details, the chief adviser said the government has formed Bangladesh Better Business Forum (BBBF) to expedite public-private partnership in the country's economic arena, introduced citizen's charter to render maximum service to the people and took effective steps to prevent misuse of power in the government offices.
He directed the government officials to continue the programmes in future for the benefit of the people of the country.
Putting emphasis on ADP (Annual Development Programme) implementation in time, he said slow implementation of projects would significantly hamper the overall development process of the country.
