CA calls for electing honest candidates in next polls

GOLACHIPA (Potuakhali), Mar 7 (BSS): Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed today called upon all to elect honest, dedicated and capable candidates in the next elections for building an enlightened society free from corruption.
The Chief Adviser made the call while exchanging views with upazila-level officials, local elite and people belonging to different professions on the Golachipa Degree College field here.
Local administration organised the programme so that the Chief Adviser could know himself from the cross section of people about the relief operations and post cyclone rehabilitation activities in the upazila.
Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed said the present government is making all out efforts to prepare a flawless voters' list with photographs aiming at holding a free, fair and credible election.
Referring to the price spiral of some imported consumer items like rice, pulses and edible oil, the Chief Adviser laid emphasis on increasing production of these agricultural products to keep the price of essentials within the tolerable level of the people.
He called upon all concerned to ensure optimum use of every inch of cultivable lands to this end.
"The government will provide you all necessary inputs including fertiliser and seeds in time," he said and urged them to give agriculture an utmost priority to raise production.
Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed also directed the government officials concerned to extend all out support to the farmers especially by providing agricultural inputs as well as expert opinion.
Referring to various demands raised by the local people during the open discussion, the Chief Adviser said the government has taken mid- and long-term programmes for ensuring development of the southern region of the country.
He said the economic condition of the people in the region will immensely improve after implementation of the programmes.
He said steps would be taken to construct a bridge on Lohalia River and repair the Kolapara-Kuakata Road to improve the communications facility in the region. He said works have been started to this end.
