CA hopes to hand over power to elected governmet soon

CHITTAGONG, Dec 23 (BSS): Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Tuesday expressed the hope the government would fulfil its desired goal of handing over power to an elected administration soon through holding a free, fair and credible polls with the cooperation of all.
"The main objective of the government is to hold a free, fair and credible polls with the participation of all political parties and we have already reached the final stage of our target," he said.
The Chief Adviser said this while exchanging views with the field level government officials of Chittagong Division at Theatre Institute in Chittagong Tuesday.
Home Adviser Maj Gen (retd) MA Matin, Cabinet Secretary M Abdul Aziz and Home Secretary Abdul Karim were on the dais during the meeting as divisional commissioner of Chittagong Hossain Jamil gave the address of welcome.
Issuing necessary instructions to hold a peaceful election free from black money, muscle power and terrorism, the Chief Adviser told the officials to ensure an environment in which the people can exercise their democratic rights without fear and in a festive mood.
In this context, Dr Fakhruddin called upon the government officials to ensure hundred per cent neutrality and transparency in the whole process of counting votes and announcing election results.
He asked the public servants to take a fresh vow to successfully overcome the challenge of handing over power to an elected government to make democracy sustainable.
Terming the holding of upcoming general elections as a gigantic task, he called upon the government officials including the armed forces, police, and district administration, BDR, Coastguards, Ansar and VDP to work in a concerted manner to hold the next elections.
Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed directed the members of law enforcing agencies to expedite drives against terrorists and identified criminals to maintain law and order in the run up to the upcoming general and upazila elections.
"It is your duty to ensure security of the voters specially at the vulnerable polling centres," he said and asked them to take all necessary measurers to this end.
In this connection, he directed the law enforcing agencies to take steps so that women and minority voters could cast their votes without any fear and intimidation.
The Chief Adviser called upon the government officials to discharge election duties with utmost neutrality, sincerity, professionalism and rising above all sorts of greed, love and aversion.
Sounding a note of caution, he told the officials concerned and members of law enforcing agencies that any negligence in discharging their duties would not be tolerated.
Referring to the ongoing electioneering, he said the poll campaign has already gained significant momentum across the country.
