CA leaves for NY Saturday to attend UNGA session

Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed leaves for New York on September 22 (Saturday) to attend the 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the UN headquarters, where he would present an update on Bangladesh affairs, reports UNB.
It will be the head of caretaker government's first trip to the USA after assuming the office of Chief Adviser on January 12 this year and he would seize the opportunity to inform the world leaders about his government's objectives and performance to reach the goal.
The chief adviser would address the UN General Assembly on September 27.
He would attend dinners hosted by US President George W Bush and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
This year's assembly will focus on climate change, financing development, implementing the UN's counter-terrorism strategy, and strategies to realise the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Security Council reform, greater coherence in UN operations, revitalising the General Assembly, and HIV/AIDS are also on the agenda.
During his weeklong visit, the CA would participate in different high-level thematic sessions.
He is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with global leaders on the sidelines of the UN general assembly.
Fakhruddin would also exchange views with members of the Bangladesh community living in the United States.
His itinerary also includes delivering speeches to the Asia Society and at the Columbia University in New York.
Chief Adviser's wife, Neena Ahmed, Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Adviser's Principal Secretary Ali Imam Majumder and Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim are also accompanying the CA.
The Chief Adviser is scheduled to return home on September 30.
