Monday, 22 November 2010

International agri-scientists and experts said effective dissemination of the latest technologies to the farmers in their languages and easier ways can enhance agricultural productions, reports BSS.
For this, they stressed the need for group communications, training, Mentoring and e-Learning and ensuring easier accesses to necessary information through digital facilities using the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at the grassroots.
They were addressing a 4-day International training workshop on Communication, Mentoring and e-Learning for faster dissemination of the proven Conservation Agri-culture (CA)-based Resource Conserving Techno-logies (RCT) to the farmers.
International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) jointly organised the workshop under the ongoing Cereal Systems Initiatives for South Asia (CSISA) Project at a city hotel Sunday.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID have been funding the CSISA Projects for enhancing agri-productions under the adverse impacts of the ongoing climate changes using the CA-based RCT in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Nepal.
IRRI Liaison Scientist in Bangladesh Dr MA Hamid Miah chaired the inaugural session that was addressed by IRRI Representative in Bangladesh Dr M Zainul Abedin as the chief guest.
Training Officer for CSISA Dr Ravikant Mazumder from New Delhi, Dr Satyanarayan of Syngenta Corporation from Pune in India and Manager of Knowledge, Information and Training of CIMMYT from Mexico Dr Petr Kosina have been conducting the training workshop.
A total of 22 participants from CSISA's Dinajpur and Gazipur Hubs in Bangladesh, Faisalabad Hub in Pakistan along with scientists and experts of different government and non-government research and extension organisations are taking part.
Country Coordinator of CSISA for Pakistan Dr M Aqil Khan, its Dinajpur Hub Manager Dr MA Mazid, Head of Agronomy of BRRI at Gazipur Dr MA Jalil Mridha, its Principal Scientific Officer at Rangpur Dr Gous Ali, Dr Mohiuddin of BARI in Tangail addressed.
The scientists and experts discussed various issues and modules for educating the participants in arranging successful and productive meetings with the grassroot farmers for effective dissemination of the latest CA-based agri-technologies.
They suggested the participant agronomists, extension providers, research assistants and representatives of different GOs and NGOs and local service providers to effectively communicate and disseminate information in appropriate ways.
They also urged the participants for mentoring, leading and exposing to the e-Learning concept so that the farmers would be able to learn many things for proper application of the knowledge and CA-based RCT technologies to enhance agriculture productions.
