Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed would lead Bangladesh delegation to the sixth summit of the leaders of the Developing-8 grouping, popularly known as D-8, scheduled for July 8 in Kuala Lumpur, reports UNB.
"This would be a significant gathering of government leaders of some of the largest Islamic countries - Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Nigeria and Egypt," said Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Chowdhury in an announcement Tuesday.
The D-8 bloc was formed with the objective of promoting economic and trade cooperation among the eight largest Muslim economies. It seeks to create new trade opportunities, promote linkages and enhance standards of living among the member-states.
Its summit meet is held every two years, Bangladesh having hosted the second one in 1999. The secretariat is based in Istanbul. A two-day meeting of Foreign Ministers would precede the summit, where the Foreign Adviser of the caretaker government Dr Iftekhar Chowdhury would represent Bangladesh.
