CA urges SCB global CEO to highlight BD’s potential

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 11 February 2025

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday called upon the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) global CEO to speak on behalf of Bangladesh, highlighting the reforms being undertaken by the interim government since August.
Bangladesh has been a victim of a massive disinformation campaign in recent months, Professor Yunus said and sought the SCB's help to fight this menace, according to a spokesman of the CA.
"Your voice will be very helpful," Dr Yunus told the global Chief Executive Officer of the SCB, Bill Winters, during their meeting at the CA's Tejgaon office in Dhaka.
Winters, who came to Dhaka to celebrate SCB's 120 years in Bangladesh, lauded Professor Yunus's leadership and the progress the interim government made in ensuring stability in the country.
The Chief Adviser also sought support from the Standard Chartered Bank to help trace and recover tens of billions of dollars siphoned off by people close to the disposed autocrat, Sheikh Hasina.
He also highlighted the measures the interim government had taken to recover the stolen billions.
"We need your help. Send some experts here," he said.
Winters assured him that Standard Chartered will help Bangladesh reach its potential through its international network and global expertise.'
