Cabinet approves import of 170,000 tonnes fertilisers

The cabinet committee on government purchase at its meeting on Wednesday approved import of 170,000 tonnes of fertilisers from United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presided over the virtually held meeting. Cabinet division additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan told the FE over telephone that all the proposals placed in the meeting were approved.
According to documents obtained by the FE, the committee approved a proposal for the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd.
Also, the BCCI have been given approval to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia.
Under three separate proposals approved at the meeting, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would import 30,000 tonnes of Triple Super-Phosphate (TSP) fertiliser from OCP S.A, Morocco, 40,000 tonnes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from the same company, and 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia.
Also, the committee approved two proposals for buying services for the construction of a flyover at Shahid AHM Kamaruzzaman Chattar Rail Crossing in Rajshahi city.
Moreover, the meeting gave tariff approval for an extended period of Haripur 360-megawatt gas-based power plant.
Earlier, the finance minister also chaired a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs which gave final approval for the concession agreement between Red Sea Gateway Terminal International Company Ltd and Chittagong Port Authority.
After the deal is signed, the RSGTI will operate the Patenga Container Terminal for a period of 22 years.
Also, the meeting approved procurement of 10 armed personnel carriers for Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) under direct purchase method instead of open tender method to enhance operational capacity of the force.
