Cabinet approves procurement of 125,000 tonnes of fertilisers

The cabinet committee on government purchase on Wednesday approved the import of 125,000 tonnes of fertilisers by two government departments.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the virtual meeting. Neither the minister nor any official briefed the media afterwards. However, officials said all the proposals placed before the meeting were approved.
Of the total purchase, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) has been okayed to import 30,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertiliser from JSC Foreign Economic Corporation 'Prodington', Russia, under a state-level agreement.
The BADC has also been given approval to import 25,000 tonnes of triple superphosphate (TSP) fertiliser from GCT, Tunisia.
The meeting also approved two separate proposals for the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) to import 30,000 tonnes each of bulk granular urea fertilisers from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia and Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd, UAE, respectively, under state-level agreements.
Officials said the meeting also approved a number of variation proposals on the Irrigation Management Improvement Project of Muhuri Irrigation Project, the Construction of ICB Head Office Bhaban at Razarbag project, the construction of a record building for Supreme Court project, the construction of a dual gauge project between Dhaka and Narayanganj and the construction of the third and fourth dual gauge railway track between Dhaka-Tongi section and doubling of dual gauge track between Tongi-Joydebpur section.
