Cabinet body approves 8 projects

The Cabinet Committee on Purchase approved on Wednesday eight projects involving Tk 16.8 billion (1,680 crore) that includes development of Cox's Bazar airport.
"The first phase of Cox's Bazar airport development work will cost Tk 5.78 billion," Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division Mostafizur Rahman told the journalists after the meeting.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presided over the meeting at the Cabinet Division.
The committee-approved projects are: building a 28.60-metre long bridge at Eliotganj and overpass (344.175-metre) at the Comilla level-crossing and another overpass (86.442 metre) at the Feni rail crossing on the Dhaka- Chittagong four-lane highway involving over Tk 2.13 billion, building a 21-kilometre long road at the Comilla bypass at a cost of over Tk 1.7 billion, and 19.916-kilometre road from Mohipal Bazar to Dhumghat bridge of Feni at a cost of over Tk 1.55 billion and a 15.667-kilometre road from Dhumghat to Mirersharai Bazar involving Tk 1.69 billion on the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway.
The other projects that the committee approved are 1.8 million electricity connections through rural electrification expansion involving Tk 469 million and appointment of a consultant for a pre-payment metering project for distribution in Comilla and Mymensingh zones at a cost of over Tk 106 million.
The committee also approved the extension of time for the gas-based 20-megawatt (MWs) rental power plant at Bogra, a 34.50 MW gas-based rental power plant at Bhola and a 50 MW gas-based power plant at Kumargaon and a 50 MW gas-based rental power plant at Sahzibazar.
