Cabinet body okays direct purchase of Covid vaccine
Approves 12 other purchase proposals

The government on Wednesday approved the procurement of coronavirus vaccine under direct purchase method in line with the public procurement rules (PPR), 2008.
A virtual meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs gave the approval, with law minister Anisul Huq in the chair.
In accordance with the PPR, any government procurement valued more than Tk 50 million requires the cabinet committee nod.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, cabinet division additional secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said the committee has approved the proposal for buying vaccine under the direct purchase method.
The proposal will be placed again before the cabinet committee on government purchase for approval and checking how much money will be needed for the procurement, he said.
Meanwhile, the law minister also chaired a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase that approved 12 proposals.
The committee approved procurement of 25,000 tonnes of bulk prilled urea fertiliser from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) at a cost of Tk 546.86 million.
The proposal for the procurement of 600,000 tonnes of Diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from MA'ADEN of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk 20.97 billion also got approval of the committee.
The committee further approved a procurement proposal relating to upgrade Karnaphuli Tunnel Connecting Road (Shikolbaha-Anowara National Highway) to 4-lane with slow moving vehicle lanes including widening road embankment and tree plantation at median under Dohazari road division.
A procurement proposal relating to construction of nine 15-storied residential tower building with 17-storied foundation for Bangladesh Police also got approval of the meeting.
Procurement of 54.50 million oral tablets for Family Planning Department, maintenance dredging of inner and outer channel of Payra seaport, and some proposals of energy and mineral division also got the approval.
