Cabinet body okays Orbital Slot lease from Russia

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs at a meeting Sunday approved in principle Orbital Slot lease from Russia for the Bangabandhu Satellite project at a cost of Tk 2.19 billion.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presided over the meeting.
"Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will take 119.1 degree East Latitude Orbital Slot on lease from Intersputnik of Russia," Mostafizur Rahman, Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division told the media after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on the day.
He said the government will provide the fund. Once the satellite is launched it will help gain commercial successes. There will be 40 transponder. Out of the number 16 will be C-brand and 24 T KU Brand Transponder. The project is set to be implemented by 2017.
It also approved proposals for establishing 225 megawatt combined cycle (dual fuel) power plant in Khulna and reexcavation of the Kapotakhya river in Jessore being implemented by the Bangladesh Water Development Board.
Earlier the Cabinet Committee on Purchase at a meeting which was also presided over by the finance minister on the day approved the Coastal Embankment Improvement Project, Phase-1 (CEIP-1) being implemented by the Bangladesh Water Development Board and building Madunaghat Water Purification and Patenga Booster Pump Station (Package W-1) under the project of Chittagong Water Supply Improvement and Sanitation of Chittagong WASA (Water Supply and Sewerage Authority).
