Cabinet body okays urea import from Qatar

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase Monday approved import of 30,000 tonnes of fertiliser from Qatar under an agreement signed between the two countries as first phase of importing 0.8 million tonnes of bagged prilled urea in fiscal year 2014-15.
Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Mostafizar Rahman, after the committee meeting, told newsmen that per tonne of fertiliser would cost US$314.75 and per sack of 50 kg urea would cost Tk 1,259.      
The fertiliser will be bought under government-to-government arrangement.
The cabinet meeting also okayed variation proposal of construction of seven culverts and raising height and re-construction of the Khulna-Chuknagar-Satkhira road.
The meeting approved the proposal of raising project cost by Tk 39.70 million to Tk 211.90 million from Tk 172.20 million.   
Besides, the meeting also approved the variation proposal of construction of the Purbachal connection road under the Purbachal new city project.
The committee further approved a Tk 907.20 million procurement proposal to supply books free of cost among madrasa students. Some 4,88,98,600 copies of books will be published under the procurement order.
The meeting also approved procurement proposal on construction and rehabilitation of Kalurghat booster pump station of the Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Authority. The project will cost Tk 524.75 million. The committee also approved a proposal of the Planning Division regarding emergency 2007 cyclone recovery and restoration project.
However, the meeting turned down a proposal of second time price hike of construction of 1,020 flats for low income people in the city's Mohammadpur area. Earlier, cost of the project increased by Tk 26.20 million at first stage. On Monday, the Ministry of Housing and Works proposed raising the cost by another Tk 19.786 million.
The meeting, presided over by Finance Minister AMA Muhith, asked the ministry to submit the proposal again after carrying out audit of the project.
