Cabinet committee over removing salary discrimination reconstituted

Amid the ongoing movement by public university teachers seeking a separate pay scale, the government has reconstituted the cabinet committee over eliminating salary discriminations.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday, a news agency report said.
Headed by Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith, the other members of the 7-member committee are the Industries Minister, Commerce Minister, Education Minister, Law Minister, State Minister for Public Administration and State Minister for Finance and Planning.
Cabinet secretary, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, senior secretaries of Finance Division and Public Administration Ministry and senior secretaries/ secretaries/acting secretaries of the ministry or division concerned will provide support to the committee members.
The major tasks of the committee include revision of the pending cases aiming to implement the national pay scale, securitising the allegations over salary discrimination and making recommendations for settling those and submitting recommendations after examining other related issues.
However, the existing cabinet committee which was formed on April 24, 2014 will be cancelled from now, said the notification signed by additional secretary Mostafizur Rahman.
On September 7, the Cabinet approved the new pay scale for public servants raising the monthly basic salary of the Grade 1 public officials to Tk 78,000 (fixed) while the basic pay of Grade 20 employees at Tk 8,250, making the national exchequer to bear an additional expenditure of Tk 159.0424 billion in the current fiscal year.
Besides, public university teachers have been on a movement for an independent pay scale for them terming the 8th national pay scale discriminatory ones.
