Monday, 30 June 2014
The Cabinet on Monday approved the draft of the Formalin Control Act-2014, keeping provision of maximum life term punishment for the offenders. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, gave final nod to the draft Formalin Control Act 2014 submitted to it by the Ministry of Commerce. The meeting sources said the draft anti-formalin law has the provision to provide life sentence as maximum penalty to the offenders. Traders will require licenses to sell, carry and store the preservative once the law is passed, Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said. Mobile courts and police have found the chemical being used rampantly in almost all seasonal fruits and fish during anti-formalin drives in markets across the country, report agencies.
