Cabinet okays SAARC transport deal draft

The government has approved a proposal on signing an agreement with SAARC countries for transport of passengers and goods by roads within the members of the regional grouping.
The Cabinet gave the approval to the draft of ‘Motor Vehicles Agreement’ in its weekly meeting held Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters after the meeting.
SAARC countries are supposed to sign the agreement during the 18th summit of the grouping to be held on Nov 26-27 at Kathmandu, Nepal.
Bhuiyan said the agreement would cover transport of passengers and cargo.
“This draft (of the agreement) has been finalised based on the opinions and decisions of all the countries, their ministries and stakeholders. It has been approved today. It will be signed after ministerial meeting of all SAARC countries finalises it,” he added, according to a news agency..
