Cabinet paves way to make ICT rules more time befitting

The name of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry has been changed to Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources (Matsya and Pranisampad Mantranalaya).
The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting in the city Thursday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting, reports UNB.
Under the changed nomenclature, the departments and directorates under the ministry were also renamed.
Pashusampad Adhidaptar will now be Pranisampad Adhidaptar, Bangladesh Pashusampad Gabeshona Institute will be Bangladesh Pranisampad Gabeshona Institute and Matsya-O-Pashusampad Paridaptar will be called Matsya-O-Pranisampad Paridaptar.
The meeting also approved the decision to bring Gopalganj district under the National Service. Under the new safety-net recipe, secondary and above-qualified youths will be provided temporary employment.
Briefing newsmen at the PID conference room, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad said the Cabinet meeting in another step approved the extension of the retirement age limit for the freedom fighters now in public service. "The decision will take effect from December 13, 2009."
The Cabinet gave approval for the formulation of new guidelines for Internet Gateway (IG), Internet gateway Exchange (IGX) and Internet Gateway Service to make the ICT rules more time befitting.
The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in 2007 approved licensing to three IGs, one IGX and one Internet Gateway Service.
The BTRC on August 11 last year sent a proposal to the ministry concerned for modernising the licensing system of these categories. The ministry later formed a committee with nine members.
Thursday's Cabinet meeting gave approval to the nine-member committee formed to formulate a new Act which will be passed in Parliament.
The Cabinet meeting in principle approved the draft 'Bangladesh Tourism Board Act 2009' providing for the formation of the guardian body for flourishing the country's tourism sector by exploiting its potential.
"The new law that will enable forming tourism board will help the tourism sector a lot to develop," Mr Azad told the journalists.
He said the Board would make policy while the Parjatan Corporation will implement the policy.
Three reports of the Bangladesh representatives on the 6th International Finance Forum (IFF) in Beijing, Green Industry in Asia in Manila and seventh ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva were placed.
The council of ministers also adopted a condolence motion mourning the loss of lives and devastation in a terrible earthquake in Haiti.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the Health Ministry to send a medical team with adequate medicines and clothes to the Caribbean islands.
The press secretary to the Prime Minister said that the Cabinet in the day's meeting did not discuss the President (Remuneration and Privileges) Act 1975, the Prime Minister (Remuneration and Privileges) Act 1975 and the Ministers, Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers (Remuneration and Privileges) Act 1973 meant for enhancing their honorarium.
