Cadaveric kidney transplantation can save thousands of lives

Against the backdrop of an alarming number of kidney patients in Bangladesh, the cadaveric kidney transplantation, the first of its kind in the country, is going to be introduced very soon as the method can save thousands of lives, reports BSS.
"We have taken all preparations for cadaveric kidney transplantation in the country as there are no legal and religious barriers to this end," Prof Harun Ur Rashid, president of Kidney Foundation, Bangladesh, told an international seminar in the city Tuesday.
Prof Harun said cadaveric organ transplantation, particularly kidney, could help save thousands of lives in Bangladesh.
"Though Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in organ transplantation, it is lagging behind in cadaveric organ transplantation," said Prof Harun, also the president of Society of Organ Transplantation.
Kidney Foundation, Bangladesh, arranged the sixth annual convention and the international scientific seminar at Kidney Foundation Hospital and Research Institute at Mirpur in the city.
The theme of the convention was 'Donate kidney after death, save life of kidney failure patients'.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Health and Family Welfare Affaires Dr Modasser Ali inaugurated the convention as the chief guest while National Professor MR Khan was the special guest at the seminar.
