Call for disaster-resilient RMG supply chain

FE REPORT | Thursday, 19 November 2020

Speakers on Wednesday laid emphasis on disaster-resilient RMG supply chain for sustainable development.
Sharing the study findings, they suggested developing a strategy for a disaster-resilient supply chain, adopting riverine route as an alternative, developing the affiliated structure and facilities along the Dhaka-Chittagong corridor to carry RMG product efficiently.
The study also suggested introducing mandatory design standards, including the implementation of National Building Codes for constructing infrastructure, RMG factories and other civil works.
The recommendations came at a workshop in NEC Conference Room of Planning Commission, organised by National Resilience Programme (NRP) to disseminate the findings of a study styled "Supply Chain Resilience of RMG Sector in Bangladesh," said a statement.
Planning minister M A Mannan inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest while state minister for disaster management and relief Enamur Rahman attended it as the special guest. Senior secretary, Planning Division Ashadul Islam presided the workshop.
