Call for multi-sectoral cooperation among poultry industry

Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque Saturday called for multi-sectoral cooperation among the poultry industry and relevant farms to ensure food security and fulfill demands for animal protein, reports UNB.
Aiming at an Avian Influenza free Bangladesh by 2011, he said that government would provide all support to develop the country's poultry industry.
The minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 6th International Poultry Show and Seminar in the city.
The World's Poultry Science Association--Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) organised the three-day show and seminar.
Dr Razzaque told the audience that the poultry industry has proved itself to be a major source of protein supply to the country when the natural source of protein is decreasing day by day.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas speaking at the function announced that the government would observe "Poultry Week" in March every year. "The government took a special move to supply poultry products at fair prices to the consumers as well as to the producers checking intervention of the middlemen," he added.
The minister said the government formed a time-bound poultry policy following the demands of the WPSA-BB and the poultry industry.
WPSA-BB president Moshiur Rahman chaired the function, which was also attended by director general of the Department of Livestock Saleh Uddin Khan, WAPSA (Holland) President Dr Bob Pym.
Moshiur Rahman said they were trying to expand the market abroad. He was hopeful of exporting meat and eggs shortly to fulfill their commitment.
Renata Limited, Speed Care, Aftab Bohumukhi Farms Limited and Chicks & Feeds were awarded best prize in three categories.
