Call for protecting river Buriganga to save Dhaka

The river Buriganga has to be protected, otherwise it would be impossible to save the 400-year-old Dhaka and quality of water has to be improved massively for conserving the water-bodies, life-line of the metropolis, from extinction, reports BSS.
Unless the government's measures are not speedily implemented, there will be no sign of the river Buriganga in the future, if it is allowed to wipe away as it is going now.
This was the opinion of the people who were present during a swimming competition near the Buriganga Bridge-2 Friday morning.
Paribesh Banchao Andolon (PABA) organised the competition with the slogan "We Want Clean River Water". The PABA has been trying to launch a movement to protect the river Buriganga for last couple of years and as part of it, the swimming competition was organised.
A large number of swimmers participated in the competition.
Later, prizes were distributed among the winners. Former president of the Institute of Architecture Professor Shamsul Wares distributed prizes as the chief guest, while Keraniganj Army camp Commanding Officer Major Quamrul Hasan was present as the special guest.
President of Shubhakhaiya Canal Protection Committee and General Secretary of Aga Nagar Traders' Association Manjur Morshed Apu presided over the function.
M A Rashid, Sheikh Moniruzzaman, Shahidul Islam, Ashraful Hasan Ashu, Alhaj Rafiq, Saker Chowdhury, among others, were also present.
