Call to create awareness against marketing of junk foods

Speakers at a discussion urged all to create awareness against marketing of junk foods for the greater interest of the country's next generation.
The speakers said this at a discussion on 'Junk Food Generation: CI's Campaign to Stop Marketing of Unhealthy Foods for Children' jointly organised by United People's Trust, District Health Department, Customers Club and Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Comilla at the office of Civil Surgeon in Comilla recently on the occasion of the World Customer-Consumers Rights Day, said a press release.
Civil Surgeon of Comilla Md Shamsul Haque spoke on the occasion as the chief guest.
Chaired by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UP Trust and CAB (Comilla) President Md Ali Hajari, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Vice-chairman of Chouddagram Upazila Rasheda Akter and Deputy Civil Surgeon Samir Kanti Sarkar as special guests, UP Trust Chairman Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and Comilla poura councilor Raihan Rahman Helen.
Medical Officer of School Health Clinic (Comilla) Md Azizur Rahman Siddiqui delivered address of welcome, while Assistant Coordinator of promoting Gender Justice (Comilla) Achinto Kumar Das Titu conducted the meeting.
Fast food and cold drinks companies have taken such aggressive advertisements and marketing campaigns, which are very much harmful for health especially for children, should be stopped immediately, the speakers mentioned.
For avoiding unhealthy fast foods, school teachers and physicians can play strong role, they pointed out.
A colourful procession was brought out there at the end of the discussion to mark the day.
