Call to elect competent, honest candidates

RAJSHAHI, Dec 20 (BSS): Participants at a dialogue here today called for electing honest and competent candidates in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
The corrupt, public-money looters and terrorists must be boycotted in the polls, they said.
Conscious Citizens Committee (CCC), a partner organisation of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), arranged the dialogue on "Election of Competent Candidate" at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) ahead of the 9th Jatiya Sangsad election.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, Enamul Haque and Syeed Mahmud Ilias, who are contesting the JS election from the Rajshahi city constituency, replied to questions from the audience.
With CCC member Professor Abdus Salam in the chair, former chairman of Rajshahi Education Board (REB) Professor Nurul Alam, NGO leader Afzal Hossain, REB School Inspector Prof Mustafizur Rahman, business association leader Musharraf Hossain Akunji and student Manik Sarker, among others, took part in the dialogue, moderated by CCC member Akbarul Hassan Millat.
They said importance should be given to creating awareness among the general people so that they could exercise their right of franchise against the corrupt and dishonest candidates in the election.
In this context, they said that both the print and electronic media had a vital role in this regard.
