Call to eliminate child labour
Sunday, 3 January 2010
Speakers at a discussion in the city recently underscored the need for elimination of child labour, especially those engaged in hazardous work, at different areas of the country, reports UNB.
Centre for Services and Information on Disability (CSID), an NGO working for establishing the rights of disabled children, organised the discussion at RDEC Bhaban in the city's Agargaon.
They suggested that more information about disabled children, who are engaged in risky work be collected. Collection of information about them would help carry out advocacy programme to establish their rights, they said.
They appealed to all concerned to come forward to rescue the disabled children involved in hazardous work and take necessary steps for their proper rehabilitation, including education.
They also advised the parents to play a responsible role so that their disabled children get their due rights.
They also requested the parents not to use their disabled kids as a family earner, instead, to take steps for their education.
Rabiul Hasan, Director of CSID, presented at the discussion research findings of CSID on 300 disabled child workers at Dhaka, Sylhet and Barisal.
