Call to enhance savings practice for self-reliant Bangladesh

RANGPUR, Apr 6 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion here have stressed for conducting social campaign to create mass awareness among the citizens to enhance their savings practice in building a self-reliant Bangladesh.
They were addressing the inaugural ceremony and pre- rally discussion of the weeklong 'Savings Campaign and Motivation Programme- 2014' organised jointly by District Savings Office and Savings Bureau on its premises in the city on Saturday.
The weeklong campaign is being observed through various awareness building programmes including discussions and colourful rallies in the district with a view to inspiring the citizens for savings practice.
Rangpur Regional Deputy Post Master General AK Azad Al Shams addressed the discussion as the chief guest with District Savings Officer Mohammad Alauddin in the chair.
Terming savings as the friend in tough times, the chief guest called upon the citizens for building savings habit to strengthen the national economy for accelerating uplifts in building a self-reliant Bangladesh reducing dependence on foreign aids and assistances.
Later, the chief guest led a colorful rally participated by hundreds of the rover scouts, officials, employees, teachers, students of different educational institutions, professionals, socio- cultural and women activists and local elite.
Children's Film Festival begins
Another BSS report says: The first two-day International Children Film Festival Panchagarh- 2014 began at Panchagarh Government Auditorium in the sub-Himalayan town from today with the theme 'Future in Frames' amid festivity.
Children's Film Society of Panchagarh (CFSP) with the assistance of Children's Film Society of Bangladesh and UNICEF has been organising the festival, where 21 films of 13 countries will be screened today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday).
Valiant war wounded freedom fighter Mohammad Jahirul Islam formally inaugurated the film festival with Panchagarh district unit President of 'Udichi Shilpi Gosthi' Professor Md Shafikul Islam in the chair.
Additional District Magistrate of Panchagarh Feroz Ahmed attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while Nayeem Ul Haque of CFSP delivered welcome speech on behalf of the organisers.
