RAJSHAHI, May 20 (BSS): Instead of depending on only the fossil fuel emphasis should be given on enriching the renewable energy sources to face the energy challenges, speakers at a discussion said here today.
They viewed the availability of energy from many different sources is vital for the present life in meeting the challenge of the ever- increasing demand for energy.
Regional office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) organized the discussion styled "Measurements and the global energy challenged" held at Nanking Darbar Hall in Rajshahi city marking the 11th World Metrology Day-2014.
President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abu Bakker Ali addressed the discussion as chief guest with BSTI Regional office head Rejaul Karim Sarker in the chair.

In his keynote presentation, Abdul Hannan, Deputy Director (Metrology) of BSTI, highlighted significance of the day and topic as well.
The discussants emphasized the need for wide-ranging use of energy efficient products to reduce the existing pressure on power demands.
They laid stress on using energy efficient electrical appliances to reduce electricity cost coupled with energy conservation which is essential for addressing the energy crises.
Prof Mosharraf Hossain viewed that there are many factors like population growth, emerging economics, complex technologies and increasing consumers' demands that may result in significant increases in demand for all types of energy which in turn may result in environmental changes and pollution.
