Call to ensure fair budget allocation for balanced development

RAJSHAHI, May 16 (BSS): Speakers at a pre-budget discussion here called Saturday for optimum budgetary allocation for balanced development of the country.
They viewed there are various potential fields like agriculture, human resources, silk and agro-processing in the region which can contribute a lot to its socio-economic development if those were brought under special budgetary allocation on priority basis.
Economics Department Alumni Association of Rajshahi University organised the discussion styled "Regional Priority for Development" held at Momtajuddin Arts Building of the varsity.
Vice-chancellor Prof Mijanuddin and retired professor of the department Prof Tarique Saiful Islam addressed the programme as the chief and special guest respectively with Prof Rafiqul Islam, president of the association, in the chair.
Chairman of the department Prof Muhammad Ali, association general secretary Ariful Haque Kumar, Prof Shamsul Alam, Prof Mustafizur Rahman, Prof Akhtar Hossain, Prof Fakhrul Islam, Prof Afrauzzaman Khan Chowdhury, Prof Mahbubur Rahman, and Prof Abdul Kayum also spoke.
The discussants emphasised the need for ensuring business-friendly atmosphere for successful flourishing of trade and business in the region.
They termed adequate promotion of business as vital means of making any region economically prosperous and said priority should be given on identification of existing problems relating to business environment here.
