Call to ensure job security of female journalists

Media experts Sunday called upon all concerned to ensure job security of female journalists to encourage more women to become media professionals.
They also demanded 50 per cent participation of women in every section of media.
At a seminar titled 'Gender Mainstreaming in Media' they also underscored the needs for a comprehensive gender sensitive media policy and change in social mindset towards women.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni who attended the programme as chief guest, however, said the increased participation of women in political spheres has changed the scenario in Bangladesh to many extents.
She said more women should come up in the policy making in the media to bring about overall change in the society.
Organised by South Asian Women in Media (SAWM), Bangladesh Chapter at the National Press Club, the programme was attended, among others, by SAWM President Rashida Amin, Daily Independent Editor Mahbub Alam, South Asian Media Commission Bangladesh Chapter Chairman Mizanur Rahman Shelley, SAFMA Bangladesh Chapter President Reazuddin Ahmed and Secretary General Zahidu-zzaman Faruq, women leaders Salma Khan and Mahmuda Islam.
Associate Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University Kaberi Gayen presented the keynote paper while SAWM General Secretary Parveen Sultana moderated the session.
