Call to ensure proper rights to disabled people

RAJSHAHI, Dec 4 (BSS): Speakers at a workshop here Saturday underscored the need for ensuring fundamental rights to the people with disabilities for cherished development of the nation.
They stated that time has come to ensure their rights as overall progress of the country could not be possible after keeping them behind of the normal development process.
The workshop styled "Implementation of United Nation Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" was organised by Protibandhi Sechhasebi Society (PSS) at Safawang Community Center here.
Former Deputy Director of Social Service Department Mozammel Haque presented a concept paper on the issue.
With PSS Executive Director Nizamul Huda in the chair, Deputy Commissioner Dilwar Bakth addressed the session as the chief guest while Civil Surgeon Dr Jahurul Islam and Paba Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Towfiqul Islam as the special guests.
Emphasising the needs for proper nursing and development of disabled children the speakers said they should be given proper facilities for the sake of building them as competent workforce for betterment of the nation.
They underscored the need for arranging special educational system and adaptive training for the disabled children so that they could be transformed into skilled human resources.
A Rangpur report says : Speakers at a convention here Friday urged for adequate GO-NGO and social efforts for mainstreaming the disabled persons and turning them into able human resources to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
They put special emphasis on establishing disabled-friendly congenial social atmosphere and ensuring rights to education and social dignity for the disabled people by flourishing their inherent talents and abilities.
Terming the physically challenged people as the integral part of the society, they called upon all to provide adequate opportunities and the basic human rights to them like others in the society.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner BM Enamul Haque, the first session of the three-session convention was attended and addressed by Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Jashim Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest
