Call to finalise Chartered Secretaries Act in time

President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Managers of Bangladesh (ICSMB) Mohammad Asad Ullah has asked the government to finalise the long-awaited 'Chartered Secretaries Act' in due time.
He was speaking at the 11th annual general meeting (AGM) of the Institute held at the Multipurpose Hall of BIAM Foundation in the city Thursday.
Mohammad Asad Ullah presided over the AGM, said a press release.
The president said the profession of company secretary has now become a challenging one.
In view of this, the Institute has given the highest priority to developing the capability of its members.
Asad Ullah said the fourth meeting of the International Federation of Company Secretaries (IFCS) was held this year in Kenya where the Institute's past president and Council Member, Mohd Sanaullah, was elected president of the apex body of the company secretaries.
Asad Ullah presented the Council Report for the year 2006 at the AGM.
Md Shahid Farooqui, treasurer of the Institute, placed the Audited Accounts and the Auditors' Report of the Institute for 2006 with the AGM.
The meeting was attended by a large number of members. They appreciated the steps taken by the Council to uphold the standards of ICSMB as a leading professional institute of the country in the field of corporate management.
They also congratulated the Council for holding the institute's 10th anniversary, national convention-2007, second convocation and presenting an excellent annual report.
On the same day, the office bearers' election of the Institute for the 2007-2008 term was also held.
Members of the Council present in the meeting elected the new office bearers.
The newly elected office bearers are Itral Husain, president, Feroz Iqbal Faruque, senior vice-president, Md. Shahid Farooqui, vice-president, and M. Naseemul Hye, treasurer.
