Call to follow electoral rules, regulations strictly

RAJSHAHI, July 21 (BSS): Speakers at a views-sharing discussion with the candidates here Monday urged the contenders to the upcoming polls of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) to follow the election code of conducts strictly for making the election meaningful.

The contenders have a vital role in making the election free from using black money and other irregularities so have to take the responsibility", they said while addressing the meeting arranged by the Deputy Election Commissioner Office and Returning Officer at Zila Parishad auditorium Monday.

The speakers said: the Election Commission (EC) wanted to make the RCC election free, fair and acceptable to all with effective cooperation of all quarters and it was determined to do so.

Most of the 15 mayoral, 203 general and 63 women councillor candidates attended the meeting.

Deputy Election Commissioner Syed Muhammad Musha, Commissioner of Rajshahi division Hafizur Rahman Bhuiyan and Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Mahbub Mohsin addressed the meeting, among others.

The speakers urged the contenders to make themselves well informed with the electoral rules and its code of conducts for the sake of making the election a total success and asked them to follow the rules and regulations strictly.

"Ignorance about the rules and regulations would not be any excuse", they said in this context adding that candidature might be cancelled for any violation of rules.
