Call to incorporate migrants' health issue in migration, health policies

The government has been urged to properly incorporate the migrants' health issue in the migration and health policies.
Speakers made the appeal while addressing a dissemination seminar organised by International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on a study entitled 'Impact of Migration on the Health of Bangladeshi Labour Migrants: A Preliminary Study' in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
The IOM organised the seminar in association with the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B).
Greater policy intervention and social awareness is needed to address migrants' health to enhance the productivity of Bangladeshi workers abroad, IOM Regional Representative for South Asia Rabab Fatima told the seminar.
Among others, State Minister for Health Mozibur Rahman Fakir and Joint Secretary of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Shamsun Nahar addressed the seminar.
The findings of the study were presented by Health System Scientist of ICDDR,B Dr Tracey Koehlmoos.
The study was conducted in seven unions of Mirsarai in Chittagong among 200 low skilled migrants and 200 potential migrants.
