Call to make films to shape dreams of society

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Tuesday urged the filmmakers to produce good quality films based on rich history, heritage and culture of the Bangalis, saying that to sustain in the race, attention should be given to making good quality creative films which can play roles in shaping dreams of the society, reports BSS.
Addressing the National Film Award-2010 giving ceremony at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city, she said, "the government has taken a decision to declare film as an industry as we want good quality films which would quest for establishing truth and justice side by side with giving pure recreation."
Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad chaired the function while Information Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun gave the welcome address.
An 11-member jury board selected 25 persons in different categories for the national award after screening 27 films.
Renowned film actor Anwar Hossain received the Lifetime Achievement Award while Sakib Khan was given the best actor award for the film 'Bhalobashlei Ghar Bandha Jai Na' and Purnima the best actress award for 'Ora Amake Bhalo Hotey Dilo Na'.
The film 'Gohiney Shabda' was given the best film award while Khalid Mahmood Mithu received the award of the best film director for the same film. MA Alamgir was named the best side actor in the film 'Jibon Moroner Sathi', while Romana was named the best side actress for 'Bhalobaslei Ghar Bandha Jai Na'.
Sujoy Shyam was named the best music director for the film 'Obujh Bou', while Emdadul Haq Khokon was given the award as the best choreographer for the song 'O Jibon Tuchha' in the film 'Mughal-e-Azam'.
SI Tutul was declared the best male singer and Shammi Akhter the best female singer, both for the film 'Bhalobaslei Ghor Bandha Jai Na'.
Sheikh Sadi Khan was given the award of the best music composer for the film 'Bhalobaslei Ghor Bandha Jai Na' and Kabir Bakul was named the best lyricist for the film 'Nishwas Amar Tumi'. Awards were also given in the categories of best costume designer, cinematographer and art director.
The PM said, "There should not be any competition in spending money to make a film, but in selecting the themes and improving the quality of production," she said adding good quality films can create demand and help make a bridge with the expatriate Bangalis as around 10 million of them are now living abroad.
