Call to make health complexes tobacco-free

Speakers at a function Saturday underscored the need for initiating a mass awareness programme to make the hospital complexes tobacco-free, reports BSS.
This was essential for the sake of health of patients, physicians and others, they said at a discussion on "making Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital Complex a Smoking Free Zone."
The National Centre for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Health Diseases (NCCRF&HD) organised the function in its conference room as part of its two-day campaign against smoking at the complex of Suhrawardy Hospital.
Dr Md Shahadat Hossain, Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) to the President and Deputy Secretary, was present at the function as the chief guest. Professor Dr Rajiz Sultana Mahmud, Director of NCCRF&HD, presided over the function.
Dr Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury, Assistant Professor of NCCRF&HD, delivered the welcome address, while Dr Md Jashim Uddin gave vote of thanks.
Among others, Md Sibli Sadik of the NCCRF&HD, Md Sultan Ansari of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and Md Gazi Selim of Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital (SSH) spoke.
The NCCRF&HD organised the function with the aim to make smoking-free the four units in the complex, NCCRF&HD, NICVD, SSH and Begum Khaleda Zia Medical College (BKZMC), through creating awareness among the health professionals of these units including nurses, laboratory technicians and other staff, Dr Razia said.
Professor Dr KMHS Sirajul Haque, Chairman of the Cardiovascular Department of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), will be present at the function as the chief guest.
