World Health Organisation (WHO) at a workshop in the city Monday urged the media to make people aware of measures against natural disasters, like cyclone, flood and earthquake.
WHO and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) jointly arranged the consultative workshop World Health Day 2009 on Media Orientation on Health Facilities in Emergencies in collaboration with Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) programme in the city.
"Most of the people of our country don't know about the emergency preparedness. If they know the casualties will decline significantly. And on that issue both print and electronics media can play an important role," said Dr Kazi AHM Akram, responsible officer of emergency humanitarian action, WHO.
He informed that Bangladesh would observe the World Health Day-2009 on April 7 with the theme -- Health Facilities in Emergencies.
Marking the World Health Day-2009, the government in association with WHO will arrange 'Healthcare Fair' at Osmani Auditorium on that day.
The institutions like fire brigade, scouts, disaster management and meteorological office will participate in the programme.
