Call to make RAKUB effective institution

RAJSHAHI, Sept 13 (BSS): Speakers at a workshop here Wednesday called upon the participants to put in their best efforts to make the Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) an effective institution to enhance agricultural productivity as well as bolster economic condition of the northwestern Bangladesh.
As a specialised state-owned commercial bank, RAKUB has a vital role to make the nation self-reliant in food and other nutritional production through proper utilisation of the existing natural resources, they said.
They were addressing the inaugural session of the two-day workshop on 'New Products and Delegation of Power' organised for all the 36 zonal managers, audit officers and two branch managers of the bank at its conference hall.
The speakers said all the 364 branches of the bank must be made profitable for their existence.
RAKUB Chairman Yeahia Mollah addressed the function as the chief guest with its Managing Director Fazlul Haque in the chair.
Board member Abul Bashar and Training Institute's Principal Mozammel Haque also spoke on the occasion.
The workshop is aimed at disseminating idea among the officers on power delegation relating to the new business, financial and administrative matters to bring dynamism in the bank's business activities.
The speakers said the bank has launched a 'seven new-product' programmes to infuse dynamism into its business activities and viewed that the field-level branches are the main driving force to make the programmes successful.
In this context, they stated that the zonal managers and the audit officers are the key-players to make the branches more dynamic and effective. Proper power delegation is indispensable in this connection, they added.
The programmes are 'revolving crop credit', 'RAKUB fisheries village loan for extensive fish-farming', 'financing small and medium enterprises', 'loan disbursement for current capital for hybrid nursery', 'special credit for government primary school teachers both male and female', 'RAKUB-NGO linkage wholesale credit' and 'RAKUB savings scheme'.
